Kelowna's limited outdoor winter activities lead to a lot of indoor recreational time to keep yourself busy and in shape until the warmth of Spring arrives. Here's a list of some of the other indoor and outdoor winter activities.
H2O Adventure and Fitness Centre: Located in the Mission area is a fairly new family fun facility offering a large pool including swimming lanes, lessons for all ages, diving boards, the lazy river, a wave pool, waterslides and for the surfers the exciting Flow Rider. They support local school and adult programs throughout the community and also offer a fantastic training facility on the upper deck which includes running/walking lanes, weight area and training machines.
Parkinson Recreational Centre: This centrally located Recreational facility has all the amenities to keep up your fitness throughout the winter. They offer a 25m pool with a children's play pool attached, whirl pool, steam room, full size gym, weight training, cardio and circuit training rooms.
Kelowna Family Y: Located in Rutland this YMCA sponsored facility offers the 25m Athans Pool, dive pool, hot tubs, steam room and a children's area with spray features. Also attached is a strength and cardio centre with all the latest in training machines.
Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre: This is West Kelowna's community pool offering a wheelchair accessible 25m swimming pool with an attached warm soaking pool, hot tubs, steam room, a fitness centre and rec programs for all ages.
Beyond the Crux Climbing Gym: Beyond the Crux offers challenging indoor climbing programs for all abilities that will work with individuals or groups, schools or parties.
Curling: There are two Curling rinks in the Kelowna area. The Kelowna Curling Club is located in the north end of downtown Kelowna, www.kelownacurling.com and The Winfield Curling Centre is 20 minutes to the north of Kelowna in Winfield. www.winfieldcurlingclub.com
Gymnastics: There are a couple of gymnastics centres in Kelowna with the Okanagan Gymnastics Club located in Rutland, The Energyplex and Kelowna Gymnastix.
Ballooning: There are 3 companies in Kelowna that offer a fabulous Okanagan Hot Air Balloon Ride. Balooning can be enjoyed most of the year depending on weather conditions with incredible views of the whole Okanagan valley. Okanagan Ballooning, Stardust Ballooning and Balloon Kelowna will be able to take care of all your ballooning desires.
Ice Fishing: In the winter months, Wood Lake and Duck Lake to the north of Kelowna, are two really popular ice fishing lakes. Kokanee are the most commonly caught fish, but there is the odd large rainbow trout to be caught, if you're lucky.
Indoor Ball Hockey: The Sunplex Sports Arena in the downtown area hosts indoor ball hockey leagues from the beginner to the seasoned vets.
