Winter Adventures

Cold winters combined with the coastal moisture provides the Selkirk mountain range with an abundance of light dry snow, offering up some the best powder skiing, snowboarding and cross country skiing in the world. There is the fabulous local ski area Big White Ski Resort about a forty minute drive from Kelowna, while just an hour's drive south is Penticton's Apex Mountain and about the same distance north brings you to Vernon's Silver Star Mountain.

Backcountry skiing/snowboarding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling are easily accessible and offer some of the best snow conditions the province of British Columbia has to offer.

In the city, Kelowna offers a number of excellent indoor winter facilities to help keep you fit and busy. There are plenty of hockey rinks, indoor swimming pools, as well as the H2O pool in the Mission with its awesome slides and wave pool. Located nearby in the Capital News Centre is an indoor soccer field with artificial turf and two ice rinks available for house leagues. The Centre has a large indoor training facility where you will find local Junior, WHA and NHL hockey players training during the off season. Stuart Park, located in the city centre has a cool lit up outdoor skating rink for the general public to enjoy, weather permitting, of course. Come check it out...
