Cycling

Kelowna's cycling culture is recognized around the world for its spectacular mountain biking areas that range from the gentle, like the Mission Creek trails or the famous Kettle Valley Railway to the aggressive areas like Crawford Estates or Powers Creek. Whether you like Downhill or XC, you'll find some incredible climbs or descents that will suit your desires that keep bringing mountain bikers back to Kelowna year after year.

Kelowna has the Mountain Bike Park sitting alongside the Mission Greenway, located on Hollywood Road south.

The road riders have everything from easy grade lowlands around the lake to the hills that take you up onto the upper bench lands and into the orchards and vineyards which have incredible views of Okanagan lake and the city of Kelowna. Touring the Okanagan Valley offers majestic views, incredible wineries, tours, great camping and well marked bicycling lanes.

The newest Cycling craze in the Okanagan Valley is CycloCross which originated in Europe and is becoming an extremely popular athletes event as well as spectator friendly sport. A mix of road and cross country cycling challenges athletes through a set course with many obstacles thrown in.

Triathletes love to train in the Kelowna area to acclimatize themselves to the elevation and the hot dry air to prepare for the local events like Kelowna Apple Triathlon and the World famous Penticton Ironman, now called Challenge Penticton as of 2012 held about 60 km's to the south of Kelowna.

The BMX scene sees the growing emergence of some very good young talent. They are taking their skills to the world stage and inspiring the younger riders who are following in their footsteps. There is a BMX track located in Rutland where you can see weekend events in the spring and summer or just go watch some riders practice on a nice warm evening.
